Strange. I am not aware of any feature that could explain that behavior.

This sounds like the behavior you would experience in "Overwrite" mode.
If the overwrite behavior is happening, you will see "Ovr" in the status bar. Click that, and it will switch to regular "Ins" mode.

The Alt key on the Mac is also called Option and you can find it next to the Command key.

User configuration files and toolbar configuration files normally are stored in the folder C:\Users\<UserProfile>\Documents\SoftMaker\Settings
You can also export and import them as shown in the attached screenshot.

To paste text only you should use ribbon Home command Paste>Paste unformatted text. Another option is to use shortcut key Alt+Ctrl+V for paste special dialogue where you can select to paste unformatted text.
