Do you mean a font that is metric-compatible, or just a font that looks similar?

Re: Basic Sans and Basic Roman are not metrically compatible with Times New Roman (TNR) and Arial
Nevertheless, it looks and is designed very similarly, yet it is not metric compatible. I'm afraid people will use it assuming it can substitute for Times New Roman or Arial, only to find that their document becomes a mess.
Font is also one of the factors that determine document compatibility.

Re: Zoom with touchpad gesture
You can't blame the operating system because it only shows the API that any application can use. Google Chrome and Chromium work after setting them to use Wayland, which shows that there is a problem with SoftMaker Office. If you are not convined, I have screencast you can view here: https://youtu.b...

Re: Support for Mozilla LLAM file (llamafile) as GPT
For sensitive organizations using public ChatGPT will not be acceptable. You need to provide Open Source and Local LLAM to provide the GPT capability in Office applications. In terms of privacy, I believe that SoftMaker Office is GDPR compliant. There is little to worry about. However, the "br...

Basic Sans and Basic Roman are not metrically compatible with Times New Roman (TNR) and Arial
Context: https://forum.softmaker.com/viewtopic.php?t=27275 While Basic Roman and Basic Sans are very similar to Times New Roman and Arial in terms of look and design, unfortunately, they are not truly metrically compatible. If you open softmaker font metric compatibility check.tmdx in SoftMaker Offi...

Re: Zoom with touchpad gesture
You can check it if it's working with X11 or not. Nope. The touchpad gesture to zoom in both Chromium and SoftMaker Office doesn't work when switching to X11. However, as I previously mentioned, the touchpad zoom gesture in Chromium could work in Wayland if Chromium is set to run in Wayland with ch...

Re: Font rendering on Wayland
Have you enabled fractional scaling? This feature is known to cause X11 apps to appear blurry in Wayland.

Re: Touchscreen support on Linux
I've tested the touchscreen behavior only in Cinnamon (on two laptops with Mint 21 and recent Mint 22), and scrolling doesn't work. As far as I know, the Cinnamon desktop environment (DE) does not have good touchscreen support. Have you considered trying a different distribution or desktop environm...

Zoom with touchpad gesture
I'm using SoftMaker Office 2024 on Fedora Linux Workstation 41, and I recently noticed that I can't zoom in on documents using the touchpad gesture. This works in Google Chrome/Chromium after changing chrome://flags/#ozone-platform-hint to Wayland. I reported this issue to support[at]softmaker.com, ...

Basic Sans and Basic Roman
I would like some clarification regarding the Basic Sans and Basic Roman fonts included in the SoftMaker Office installation:
1. Is Basic Roman metrically compatible with Times New Roman?
2. Is Basic Sans metrically compatible with Arial?
