Greetings and a few suggestions

Post by vic »

Hi,
I'm new to FreeOffice , it appears to be very good software! =D>

One feature I find neat (and better than in LibreOffice) is that you can move an object (chart, picture...) with the keyboard arrow keys and also control the speed with the "ctrl" or "shift" keys.

A few initial suggestions:
  • please make the scrollbar be at the very right edge of the window, so that you don't have to be very careful when trying to click on it with the mouse. Take example from chrome browser: you just move the cursor to the very right and start dragging, it works even if you get a bit past the actual scrollbar (as long as the window is maximized).
    I know that currently you have the right-side "sidebar" openner there- but could you place that somewhere on the top margin of the sidebar? Above the top-right corner of the cells' area.
  • Please make it preserve the focus when switching from one tab (sheet) to another. Currently, if I click on a chart, then when I move to another sheet that focus is lost

More suggestions:

* Grouping of rows or cols:
- make clicking on the group-line in the margin to close/hide the group (that is, make so that not only clicking on "-" closes the group, but also click on line itself).
Else, more mouse work. If have 2 or more subsequent groups of rows, and both are open, then you cannot close just one of them (need close all then open back the ones that need to be open with "+")
EDIT:
LibreOffices solves this partially by placing the "-" button right where the "+" was. It would be even better to place that "-" at both beginning and end of the grouping-line.

- show the group/ungroup actions in the right-click menu on selected rows/cols

* Commenting:
- delete comment: better be present in right-click menu of a cell containing a comment, next to "Edit" comment (present there only under "delete special" submenu)

Please do NOT change this. The little button to minimize or open the ad sidebar in PlanMaker is so small and unobtrusive that it's not a problem. You rally have to work hard to hit it by accident. It's placement is consistent with where it's located in TextMaker, so changing it in PlanMaker would logically call for also changing it in TextMaker (and, I assume, Presentations, although I didn't check that).

"It it ain't broke, don't fix it" is always good advice. The last thing we need is an office suite that tries to emulate Chrome (UGH!).
