Keep getting message about pdf from scanned document

I downloaded a pattern from online. When I try to add text boxes (to make some notes on it) I keep getting these messages that it looks like I am working on a document that was scanned.
Okay, maybe it was scanned. Can I "flatten" it somehow so I can make notes on it?

I tried printing it to pdf again - that didn't work.
