Unable to remove pages

I've produced a document consisting wholly of Header, Footer and the main document which consists of a table.
After reaching two pages in size I found that saving the document and re-opening gave me FOUR pages - the first two being duplicated as pages 3-4.
If I manualy remove pages 3-4, using 'delete table' or empty contents and then 'remove rows', and then save, close and re-open, then these errant pages re-appear!

After extending to a 3rd page, saving and re-opening the file has now expanded it to 10 pages!
I'm looking foreward to the explaination.

It appears there is some corruption in the file. To resolve this, please follow these steps (preferably both):

1. Right-click in the table > go to Properties > Table > Layout tab > change Wrapping from "Surrounding" to "None".

2. Save the file as DOCX (not DOC).

This should solve the problem and prevent the page from repeating.
